Playstation Vita Firmware Update 1.61 Goes Live

If you’re lucky enough to already own a Playstation Vita, you have a brand new firmware update to apply to your system.  The firmware update is in preparation for the Playstation Vita’s midnight launches going on through North America tonight.

It’s not a huge update, but it adds a few noticeable features and functions to your system.  Thanks to a post on the Official Playstation Blog, we’re able to list the details of the firmware update below:

  • A new application, (Maps), has been added to the home screen.
  • In addition to photos, you can now take videos using the Photo application.
  • You can now publish stories about the products that you rate in PlayStation Store to Facebook.
  • In near, players’ information is now displayed on the Discoveries screen. On this screen, a list of the online IDs of up to 100 players that you have encountered, and the number of times that you encountered each player, are displayed. Tap an online ID to display that player’s profile screen.
  • The Mac OS version of Content Manager Assistant for PlayStation has been released. The Windows version has also been updated.
To update your Playstation Vita fully, just select the “System Update” option under the “Settings” area.  If you’re also interested in downloading the Content Manager Assistance, you can grab it here.
What do you think about the latest update for the Playstation Vita?  Are you planning on grabbing the system tonight at a midnight launch, or picking it up later this week?  Be sure to let us know what you think by leaving us a comment below, or discuss the Playstation Vita in our forums.
When not writing for the site, you can find Dougie on Xbox Live & Playstation Network (Gamertag: AirUpThere06). He plays just about everything, but loves a good shooter with a great multiplayer experience.
