NBA 2K12 PS3 Gamers Experiencing Freezing Issues

For fans of the NBA 2K series on the Playstation 3, it’s been a little bit of a bumpy ride.  Numerous gamers are experiencing a rather large freezing issue on their Playstation 3 when playing NBA 2K12, and a fix has not yet been released.

When searching their official forums, you’ll find quite a bit of users that are experiencing an issue with freezing.  2K Sports has mentioned a “workaround” of deleting your NBA 2K12 “Game Data Utility” file, but quite a few users are still experiencing an issue with the game after doing this action.

2K Sports has stated that they’re working on a new patch/update to fix this issue on the Playstation 3, but there’s still no timetable as to when it will go live.  While it’s not happening to every user on the Playstation 3, there’s a large enough number for 2K Sports to look into taking action.

    YES!!! Its horrible! I want to play 2k12 so bad! but it keeps freezing when it gets to the start menu!

      I deleted everything that was game data that was part of 2k12 and it worked for me thankfully if that did not work going to more than likely have to delete the save game data.

    I’ve only had 2K12 for about a month. It stopped working about 2 weeks ago. It would get to the Loading Settings screen and freeze. I tried the old “clean the disc with alcohol trick”. Then, it got past the settings and got to Loading Roster. Then, it froze again. I haven’t played since. Went back to Madden..smh

    I’m in the middle of the Western conference finals in myplayer mode and the game wont load. I took the game to Game Stop where they advised me of the 2K issue. I would have expected this issue to be fixed by now, and I’m shocked and disappointed that myself (who has only been dealing with this for 3 days) and other 2K users are without our favorite game. I fully expect so additional compensation for being without the product I paid for for an undetermined amount of time.

        Hear that. This getting ridiculous, my game doesn’t even get past the load update screen, I’ve deleted everything 2k12 related, and it is useless.

    This is ridiculous I had 2k11 and it froze at the menu screen. Now it does the same thing with 2k12. These games are not cheap I am very disappointed if these issues were known about then why even put the product on the shelf. I would like to be reimburst. I am frusterated and very upset

    got a solution, delete your game data utiility while the disc is out then it will download it again and it will start the game. i just tried this and it worked

    Been happening to me, I deleted the updates then re downloaded it and it seems to have stopped the loading screen problem. But it is still freezing mid game then restarting. Freezes for a good 10 seconds. Like extreme lag.

    THIS WORKED:got a solution, delete your game data utiility while the disc is out then it will download it again and it will start the game. i just tried this and it worked

      take the disc out then delete 2k12 file, reinsert the game and that should do it

    Got NBA 2k12 on release day. Didn’t have any problems with the game loading until I downloaded patch 1.04. Now as with many others, the game won’t load past the settings screen. This has been a really glitchy game since release. When it is working, it is no doubt the best basketball video game ever made. But right now it is pretty much worthless.

    Try telling your ten year old, “Sorry your game doesn’t work that you got for Christmas, but hopefully someone is working on a solution”. I thought it was just “his” disk so I was able to even exchange the game for a new one. I now know it’s happening to lots of people. His is freezing at the “load roster” start up. Someone help please! it sucks for gamers and their parents! :)

      I deleted everything that was game data that was part of 2k12 and it worked for me thankfully if that did not work going to more than likely have to delete the save game game.data.and make sure the game is not in the system.

    Had this game for about 2 weeks and it froze even after deleting all the data files, signing off and reloading. Got desperate and bought a brand new 2k12 game and it also froze ! I thought it was the console itself but other games are working fine. Switching back to 2k11 and trying to find out how to get a refund.

    F 2K12. I don’t think I’ll ever buy another 2K basketball game again. I got 2K12 for Christmas. Played it for about 2/3 weeks and now my game doesn’t work at all. Dealing with the damn game Freezing. Tried all the Deleting of this file and that file. And the game still isn’t working. F 2K Sports. They definitely were only relevant because NBA Live and EA Sports fell off with their stupid ass animations in their Basketball games. In addition, the problem is only affecting gamers with PS3′s. WTF is that about. F 2K12. We all need to start the movement.

    I’ve tried the delete data, reload option. As soon as I’m prompted to update the game, once I hit OK, instant freeze. Nothing I do works, and I can’t even get a response from tech support, not even a we are working on it. I like the class action idea, users who pay good money for these games need to take a stand.

    delete the 2k12 file from your game utility data folder but you first gotta eject the game before doing so. put the disc back in and it should work

    Even with the work around the game still freezes, and when I do get a chance to play Brandon Knight look like he dipped his arms in tar and on top of that not only I’ve lost shoes, I lost the updated The Palace floor court. The only bright side I got my rosters updated from last week so Lin is on the Knicks and Isiah Thomas is playing on the Kings.

    I’m having this issue at this moment where it won’t load past the Start Screen. 2k12 was working fine a weeks ago when I switched to Xbox 360. Been trying for 2 days or so no to get it to load up.

    Yes, I got the freeze issue while loading the title screen. Deleting game data utility worked, but, in My Player mode, my custom shoes disappeared, never to return. There goes +4 in 3 pointers! I’ve had to do it twice so far, but I haven’t noticed any other side effects.

    This has been happening here also. My son was messing around got it to work. Instead of using the home page, hit the circle button to go to all of the choices then pick the game you want from there. Sorry if that is confusing, but it works.

    i’m sick and tired of 2k. i love this game. but suddenly, it froze when it starts on ‘loading settings’. i deleted my game data utility but it did not help. then i deleted every file of nba 2k12.

    yea.. i have had the freezing problem ever since i got the game. I have been able to play maybe 5 games through..It has gotten to the point where i cant even get the game to load up.. I get the the file load screen and it just sits there while playing the music. I have tried deleting the game data and re-installing it.. still doesnt work.. just really pissed, not going to be a buyer on next years addition

    my ps3 freezes when i play My Player. i’m already in the second round of the playoffs in my rookie year. i defeated Milwaukee 4-0. right after game 2 with Orlando, after watching the Jordan Player of the Game clip, when you click on Quit, the console freezes instead of going to the Post Game Conference. i’ve tried everything. i’ve tried Play Next Key Game to skip a game but it just freezes. i’ve already deleted the Game Data Utility five times and updated to version 1.05 five times but it does the same exact thing. freezes instead of going to Post Game Conference. i’ve also tried switching Autosave off. still freezes. i’ve also tried playing while my PSN account is offline. it still freezes all at the same exact spot. i don’t want to have to create a new player all over again in fear of the same thing happening all over again. i’ve tried searching the web for any other solutions for this problem, even the 2k forums but there seems to be no other solution to fix this. will definitely NOT buy the next NBA game from 2K anymore if this is the kind of support that we get.

    i’ve had nba 2k12 since around febuary, it’s never crashed once, then out of nowhere last night it starts freezing up, commentary & music stopping & starting, can’t even get through a game now, this is such an annoying issue,, i guess it’s just cool that 2k13 is now out and i can buy that when i get paid..
