The …anonymous…group of hackers known as Anonymous thought to be behind the well-publicized PlayStation Network dismantling in the summer of 2011 are once again targeting Sony and “associates”, this time directly due to their support of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act.) In an act straight out of a suspense movie, they have released a video detailing their plans to conquer Sony’s “network” (one could logically assume PSN is on the list) and a bit of boasting on previous “accomplishments”. The speak-and-spell voice in the video is enough to make the hair on your neck stand up, but if you insist on watching, the video is included below.
Now, as also mentioned by Joystiq, the apparent dismissial of Microsoft and Nintendo’s support of the bill as well is a tad peculiar, but at the end of the day the damage could potentially be great for PlayStation users and beyond if this turns out to be legitimate. The video above ends with a simple-yet-chilling send-off: “You should have expected us.” Whether you support SOPA or are as against it as Anonymous, the question of the day remains: is the video a scare tactic or should we be preparing for nuclear interwebz all over again?
